Industrias Ponsa manufactures a wide variety of PP yarns since 1974. The production process of our yarn begins with the extrusion of the pellet, the chemical composition which gives the yarn extraordinary chemical, physical and environmental properties. PP yarn can be considered chemically inert given its apolar structure, this fact gives good properties of resistance to a variety of chemical substances. Of its physical properties, we can highlight the high response to fracture due to bending or fatigue, good tenacity and impact resistance, and high thermal stability. It can degrade to the outside with exposure to UV light from the sun (between 1 and 2 years), due to the formation of oxygen bonds on the surface, so at Industrias Ponsa we manufacture the yarn with additives that provide the ribbons with a very high resistance to external light, thus avoiding its decomposition when used for outdoor applications. To equip the thread we manufacture with the specific properties that some applications or some of our clients may require, Industrias Ponsa uses the “Masterbatch” technique. For this reason, we perform, for example, concentrated pigment mixtures (color) or additives within the same polypropylene pellets, allowing us to obtain a high quality yarn that always meets the specific demands required by the client. Thanks to the close collaboration between our R & D department and the Spinning staff, we have an extensive catalogue of threads with specific characteristics for very diverse applications. The process used with “Masterbatch” allows polypropylene pigmentation without water consumption (compared with other dyeing processes) as well as the addition of specific active principles. The “Masterbatches” we use are of high quality and guarantee a good dispersion and uniformity of the additives as well as a cleaner manufacturing process. Of all the textile fibers, the polypropylene yarn is within the category of recyclable (there are others that are not, such as Nylon, or require a much more complex process, such as polyester.). The recycling of the PP is a simple process that, to a large extent, depends on the previous separation of the plastic waste. For this, there are the codes of separation of the plastic according to the type of resin used for its manufacture. The separation code is the RIC (Resin Identification Code). Currently the materials marked from 1 to 6 are recyclable in a relatively easy way. The PP is the number 5 and has a triangle symbol with a 5 inside and below the letters PP.
